Ian Lean

Australian Landscape Artist

curriculum vitae

Born in Bellingen, Northern NSW in 1952 and lived in Coffs Harbour until 1974.
After a horse riding accident in my early teens I dabbled in painting landscapes to fill in time whilst recovering.

Upon leaving school I moved to Sydney to follow a career in Land Surveying being employed as a Survey Engineer and Draughtsman.
After viewing paintings in numerous art galleries and art exhibitions my interest in landscape painting was renewed. I had limited tuition from practicing artist James Wynne, Allan Fizzell and John Wilson but I am mainly self taught. (practice and many paintings).

I paint outdoors on site (plein air) whenever possible and use photographs for reference during indoor painting. I have painted using acrylics and oils but now I only use oils.
Painting subjects are varied including Sydney waterways, Hawkesbury River, Blue Mountains, Central Coast and country NSW.

I lived in Berowra for 40 years and now have retired to the Central Coast.
I have exhibited in many galleries and art exhibitions over the years.
